Mrs Florence Mungathia is a lecturer in Christian education studies department at NEGST. She is passionate about interacting with people and helping them to make progress in their lives through counseling sessions but more so in facilitating various kinds of training.
Mrs Mungathia’s teaching philosophy is to facilitate holistic transformation in the lives of her students, who will in turn be in a position to impact their families, churches and communities. 2 Timothy 2:2 “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others”. She believes that teaching is a calling from God. She is motivated to press onward because of the fulfillment that she gets when she has impacted a person’s life.
Florence first joined NEGST in 2002 as a student but also worked as a part time lecturer in the Christian Ministries Programme (CMP) until 2005, when she was confirmed as a full time lecturer. She also has four years of teaching experience as a tutor in Presbyterian Teachers Training College, where she worked after her first degree.
Mrs Mungathia earned an MDiv in Christian education from NEGST. She also has studied guidance and counseling from the Christian Churches Education Association and holds a bachelor’s of education in home economics from Kenyatta University. Her plan is to pursue a PhD in education and have more impact in the academic and church ministry fields.
A challenge for Florence is to balance her roles as a lecturer, young parent and pastors’ wife. She is married to Rev Stanley Mungathia, and they are blessed with two children: a four-year-old son named Wema Charis “God’s Grace” and a one-year-old daughter named Furaha Hesed “God’s Faithfulness”.
Mrs Mungathia’s parting shot for the NEGST community is “God has created each of us with unique gifting, a specific calling and a special purpose. May God help each of us to discover who we are, what He created us to become and may we trust Him to help us fulfill this purpose in our generation.” (Stormie Omartian – Devotion).
