Mr Benson Mwinzi Waema first came to NEGST in 2006 for the extension program at the A.C.K. Language School, where he did a diploma in Christian education. He came back in September 2009 to pursue a bachelor of theology, also through the NEGST extension program at the A.C.K Language School.
Currently Mr Benson is a pastor at Africa Inland Church (A.I.C) Angaza in Kariobangi. In addition to being a pastor, he also works with a ministry called Source of Light East Africa. The vision of this ministry is to reach the people of the world through Christ-centered and time-tested materials which will result in evangelism, discipleship, and church planting. Source of Light East Africa is mainly involved in outreach in schools, prisons, churches and in training disciples in the various places that they visit.
A few months ago the Source of Light came up with a campaign which was to challenge their readers to become “paper partners” with them. A paper partner is someone who helps the orgarnisation buy a roll of paper on which Source of Light may print the word of God. Since Benson he had no money to give, he decided to help out using his artistic talents. He drew a picture of the Kilimanjaro elephant and he sent it to the director of Source of Light with the request, “Please show this to the people and maybe they will want to pay some money for it. Whatever they give, please put it on a roll of paper to print the lessons.” His request was sent to The Reaper, a Source of Light e-newsletter, along with the promise that for every gift of money to help purchase a roll of paper, a copy of the picture of the Kilimanjaro elephant would be sent out to the donor. The response was overwhelming, and the funds are still coming in. To date, Benson’s picture has raised more than $41,651, enough to buy 52 rolls of paper. For more information, go to www.sourcelight.org.Reaper Summer 2009.
After graduation, Benson’s desire is to begin an institution for people to propagate their talents and use them for the glory of God.
Waema’s parting shot for the NEGST community is that God can use our talents to assist NEGST become a better place where people want to be. Benson is married to Mary Wavinya and they are blessed with two children: Tabitha Kalundu, 11 years and Josphat Mutunga, 7 years.
