A Lesson Learned:

Ms. Zipporah Wambua, upon existing Dr. Steve Rasmussen’s Biblical Theology of Missions class said, “As you watch who God is from Genesis to Revelation, you see Him active in history, working his story. This class exposed me to the mission of God as bringing justice, empowerment, healing, food to the poor, medication and love to the dying world. Thus making me want to be more like Him every day of my life.”

Stephen Silamo, upon existing Dr. Peter Mathenge’s hermeneutics class said, “I learned that I can be keener in interpreting the Bible, from other perspectives rather than only in my own personal convictions, and I should consider the context of the verse–the whole chapter, the book, historical factors, social factors and the language of the text, before interpreting it.”

John Teke, a 2nd year MDiv in theological  studies reflects on Dr. Bill Black’s Christian apologetics course, “We look at people with a particular lens and our own world view hinders us from seeing others. We judge people according to our own worldview and we end up becoming biased. And yet Jesus did not do this. We don’t defend faith by setting arguments but by engaging people in order to understand their world view.”

Philemon Uchay, upon exiting Dr. Caleb Kim’s Pauline Theology of Missions course said, “We are all touched by how God’s justification motivated Paul for missions–how he was transformed and forgiven, and his motivation came out of that.” (Acts 26:18)

Lesson learned

Haruna A. Tukurah, Nigerian 1st year MDiv student in Christian Education, loves Dr Jusu’s Philosophy of Education course. He says, “The teacher has to involve the learner’s inner being–the understanding must be at that level–for true learning to take place. The teacher must not simply impart information, but must know where the learner’s mind is prepared to understand. Learning goes beyond physical information.”

George Ogalo, 3rd year MDiv in biblical studies reflects on Dr. Mercer’s Cultural World of the Bible course, “The political and cultural circumstances under which the Jews lived at the time of Jesus were strikingly international. It’s amazing the way Christianity developed from that context.”

Andy Alo, ABD PhD, said, “Bible translators use different words for light in Lugbarati (a language used in Democratic Republic of Congo), which can cause confusion. As I write my dissertation, I am searching for the word that best fits the biblical metaphor of light.”
