Edwina Ministers in Kenyan Prisons and Police Cells
Student Name: Edwina Wanjiru Wainaina
Program of Study: 1st year, MA Christian Education
Country of Origin: Kenya
Current Place of Ministry: Attends Nairobi Chapel, but also ministers in the Kenya Prison and Police Cells every Sunday.
I began ministering to people in the prison and police cells in 2001. Out of all the different ministries I have engaged, I would say this ministry has been the most enjoyable for me. To meet with people, share their experiences and see the transformation, it’s an amazing experience! At first there is a lot of hostility towards you, then, by the end of your visit, you see a dramatic change that occurs after you have spent some time with people. These people in the cells really appreciate that you took the time to visit them. I remember one person I ministered to some years ago, after being released, I followed up and walked with him for another 3 years, now he is actually an undergraduate student in a theological school. All I can say is that this ministry has brought a lot of satisfaction to my heart.
